Dedicated IB Economics · HL and SL

IB Economics, engineered for the 7.

Most centres dilute IB students into A Level classes. ETG does the opposite. IB students sit in dedicated IB classes, taught from an in-house IB curriculum and IB specific textbooks, by a team trained to teach the IB rubric, not just the content. It is a quieter, more deliberate kind of programme, built for families who expect excellence.

The 100% Grade 7 figure is for HL students in the Class of 2024 who completed at least six months with us, and in earlier years more than 95% of HL students scored a 7. These are self reported and carry the usual response and selection bias, and past results do not guarantee future ones. We show the figure because it is verifiable, but the student voices below are the better proof.

Never diluted

A dedicated IB class. Not an A Level class with IB students in it.

IB Economics is its own discipline: different command terms, different papers, a Paper 3 quantitative hybrid, and an Internal Assessment that A Level students never touch.

Because of that, ETG never seats IB students in an A Level room. You learn from an in-house IB curriculum, IB specific textbooks written for the current syllabus, and a team that teaches what the IB rubric actually rewards. We do not just teach content. We teach how an IB examiner reads your script.

That is the whole premise of this programme, and it is why families who could choose any centre choose a dedicated one.

The psychology of a 7

Two students. Same effort. Different result.

Your child is smart enough. The problem is rarely effort. It is direction. Almost every IB student we meet is one of two types.

Type 1

The content memoriser

"I understand the concepts, so why can't I score?"

  • Memorises the DD and SS, AD and AS models, but freezes on real world case studies
  • Paper 1: essays become content dumps, with weak intros and no real evaluation
  • Paper 2: gets lost in the data and misses easy calculation marks
  • Paper 3: can do the maths, but cannot evaluate policy convincingly
  • IA: picks random articles that do not link cleanly to concepts
Typical result, despite studying hardGrade 4 to 5
Type 2

The application master

"I know exactly what each paper demands."

  • Does not just memorise models, but integrates theory with real world application
  • Paper 1: a proper intro, body paragraphs that answer the question, evaluative conclusions
  • Paper 2: extracts insight from the data and executes calculations cleanly
  • Paper 3: handles the hybrid, calculations, recommendation and evaluation
  • IA: strategically selects articles that showcase specific concepts
Consistent, not luckGrade 7

ETG exists to move students from Type 1 to Type 2: to stop studying Economics like a textbook subject and start preparing as if an IB examiner is watching. That is how our Class of 2024 HL students, with at least six months in the programme, reached 100% Grade 7 (caveats above).

Every paper, decoded

Four assessments. We prepare you for all four.

Most centres teach IB as if it were A Level with a different name. It is not. Each IB assessment has its own demands, and the grade is won or lost in the ones students neglect.

Paper 1

Extended response

Command term mastery, an essay structure that answers the question, and evaluation built on real world examples, not opinion.

Paper 2

Data response

Extract insight from the data, execute the calculations cleanly, and answer the full difficulty spectrum with focus, not vague statements.

Paper 3, HL

The quantitative hybrid

The part most centres skip because they teach A Level. Dedicated tutorials, step by step calculation walkthroughs, and policy recommendation and evaluation under pressure.

Internal Assessment

The commentaries

Strategically select articles that showcase specific concepts, with clear linkage and the analysis that earns the IA marks before exams even begin.

Two quiet differences do a lot of the work: our Geniusbook micro diagrams, pre annotated to examiner standards, and our command term matrix, so Evaluate and Discuss never get the same answer again.

The academic infrastructure

Your IB Economics library.

Across two years, your child receives eleven professionally bound resources, each personally written by Mr Eugene Toh and updated every year to the current IB syllabus. A textbook or workbook every term, never a photocopy.

The ETG experience

A sanctuary, not a classroom.

IB students are already stretched. Our centre is designed to feel calm and refreshing, a place where students arrive tired and leave energised, not burnt out.

Snacks and coffee bar

Brain fuel on the house, to keep energy up through intensive sessions.

Microwave and pantry

Bring your meals, warm them up, and eat comfortably before class.

Small cohorts

Deliberately small classes, so every student gets genuine attention.

IB group classes are held at our flagship centre, Coronation Plaza, 587 Bukit Timah Road. Many IB students also add private one to one sessions for IA coaching and targeted weak spots, available at Bukit Timah, Kovan, Pasir Ris, or online over Zoom, taught by the same specialist team. IB economics, answered

Questions families ask.

ETG runs dedicated IB Economics classes, never mixed with A Level students, taught from an in-house IB curriculum and 11 IB specific textbooks and workbooks written by founder Mr Eugene Toh. The team is built for IB, the materials are updated yearly to the syllabus, and the teaching is focused on what the IB rubric rewards across Paper 1, Paper 2, the HL Paper 3, and the Internal Assessment.

Dedicated IB group classes are $120 per lesson solo, with discounts for signing up with friends: $115 with one, $110 with two, and $100 with three or more. Private one to one ranges from $150 to $250 per hour depending on the tutor. All group fees include the 11 IB resources and 160+ LMS video replays, and there is a free trial worth $120. Financial assistance of 25 to 100 percent is available.

No. IB students are never placed in an A Level class. IB Economics has different command terms, different papers including the HL Paper 3 quantitative hybrid, and an Internal Assessment that A Level does not have, so it is taught with its own dedicated curriculum and IB specific materials, not repackaged A Level content.

It is for HL students in the Class of 2024 who completed at least six months with us, and in earlier years more than 95% of HL students scored a 7. The figures are self reported and carry response and selection bias, and past results do not guarantee future ones. We publish the figure because it is verifiable, and we lead with student videos because they are the stronger proof.

The programme is designed by Mr Eugene Toh, M.Sc. Applied Economics from SMU and B.A. Economics from NUS, author of the H1 and H2 TYS answer keys, and delivered by a handpicked specialist team including Ms Cherilyn, Head of IB Economics, a Lee Kong Chian Scholar from SMU, and Mr Zhu, who holds a B.A. Economics from Cambridge and an M.Sc. from Carnegie Mellon. Every tutor is trained on Mr Toh's methodology and materials.

Yes. Group classes cater to both. SL students attend the HL class and are told which lessons, such as HL only Paper 3 content, are not relevant to their syllabus, so they focus only on what they are examined on while benefiting from the same teaching and resources.

Yes. Every group class is available via Zoom livestream, and students switch between onsite at Coronation Plaza and online anytime. Every lesson is recorded to the LMS, with 160+ replays for revision. Private one to one is available online as well as at Bukit Timah, Kovan and Pasir Ris.
